Fundraising
The monies raised throughout the week from fundraising events and activities goes back into our community, supporting many local worthy causes and organisations.
The Abersoch Regatta is an annual weeklong series of events enjoyed by local residents and holidaymakers alike, held every August, and organised by volunteers of Abersoch’s village community with a primary aim to raise money for local causes.
It is one of the few community-run regattas held in the UK and reputed to be one of the oldest dating back to 1881 and the first of its kind in Wales.
The Regatta is designed to appeal to all ages with events including the famous raft race, sandcastle building, paddleboarding, a golf tournament, crab catching, surfing and other fun based competitions.
The week is focused around the main sailing Regatta day held at South Caernarfonshire Yacht Club (SCYC) in the village and on this day SCYC throws open its doors to ALL (members & non-members alike) to enjoy a drink, watch the races and soak up the atmosphere from the best vantage point in Abersoch.
The monies raised throughout the week from fundraising events and activities goes back into our community, supporting many local worthy causes and organisations.
The Committee is responsible for planning and organising the Regatta each year and we rely on volunteers during regatta week to help us to run the events we put on for you.
The very first Regatta took place on Saturday 23rd July 1881 and as the North Wales Chronicle reported: "Thousands had arrived and the place was in great glee. The weather was tolerably fine and everybody seemed to enjoy themselves thoroughly."
